About the ProgramThe Young Mom's Program offers pregnant or parenting teens an education program designed to meet their individual needs. The program incorporates practical living skills, parenting instruction, life management skills, employment preparation, career planning and child development. Childcare is provided. Subsidies and financial assistance is available to cover the parent portion of any fees. |
EARLY INTERVENTION PROGRAM FOR TEENAGE MOTHERSThe Young Moms' Program is designed to assist pregnant or parenting individuals up to 19 years of age. WHAT WILL I LEARN IN THE PROGRAMEducationA full curriculum through Alberta Learning is provided for students to continue their education under the guidance of a certified teacher. A variety of core and elective courses are available. Practical Living SkillsNutrition, cost-effective shopping, budgeting, illness prevention, healthy leisure choices, legal issues, community resources and information. Life ManagementParenting, problems solving, decision making, self-esteem, stress management, coping strategies, conflict resolution, anger management and family of origin issues. Child Development and Parenting TrainingInformation on childcare, safety, child development and appropriate and effective child management techniques. Employment PreparationWork ethics, labour market information, effective job search and maintenance skills, volunteer opportunities and attachment to the labour market. |
