This is the image for the news article titled Books Donated by Lieutenant Governor of AlbertaMedicine Hat Public School Superintendent, Mark Davidson, had the great pleasure of meeting The Honourable Lois Mitchell, Lieutenant Governor of Alberta, during her recent visit to the Medicine Hat area. As Alberta’s eighteenth Lieutenant Governor, serving in that role since June 2015, Ms Mitchell is an accomplished businesswoman and a proud, longstanding member of Alberta’s dedicated corps of community volunteers.

Ms. Mitchell is also a keen supporter of education, literacy and empowering young women to pursue their goals. As such, she presented Mr. Davidson with a series of four books written by Lisa Bowes and illustrated by James Hearne. The author, Ms.Bowes has been recognized nationally for her work as a sports reporter, live host, anchor, play by play announcer and producer. She is a Physical Education graduate who is passionate about encouraging children and families to stay active.

Mr. Davidson, in turn, has passed the books along to four of our schools to add to their library collections. Pictured below are students and staff engaged in reading the donated books...Connaught School (upper left); Dr. Roy Wilson Learning Centre (upper right); Vincent Massey School (lower left); and, Webster Niblock School (lower right).

We thank the Honourable Lieutenant Governor for her thoughtful gift and active support of education and literacy.
