Students Returning from International Travel

January 11, 2021: The information below is current as of the date posted and may change without notice, please visit the Alberta Health Services website for current travel guidelines and restrictions.

Returning travelers are required to follow instructions given by CBSA and AHS including the requirement to provide daily check in and reports to AHS public health. There is no obligation to provide proof of quarantine completion or a negative test to the school.

International travelers participating in the border pilot program must have a total of 3 negative tests before they can return to school/childcare

  • As of January 7, proof of a negative COVID-19 test result must be presented prior to boarding a flight to Canada.
  • A second COVID-19 test is done at the airport and travelers are then required to quarantine until they receive test results (approximately 48 hours)

If the test comes back negative – travelers may leave quarantine however they cannot return to school or childcare settings.

If the test comes back indeterminate – travelers must take a re-test or remain in quarantine for the full 14 days.

  • After day 6 or 7 travelers must have a third COVID-19 test. If the third test comes back negative travelers may return to school and childcare settings.

If any test comes back positive – travelers must isolate and follow all mandatory restrictions.

International travelers NOT participating in the border pilot program must quarantine for 14 days.
