What is the PowerSchool Parent Portal?

The PowerSchool Parent Portal is a web-based software system that we use to share student information with families. Online registration is a new part of the PowerSchool Parent Portal and you will need an active account in order to access and use this system.

EARLY CHILDHOOD PROGRAMS

We are now accepting applications for early childhood programs.  See the link to the attendance map below to determine your in-area school.

EARLY LEARNING PROGRAM (ELP)

ELP is offered in the morning or the afternoon for children who are 3 - 4 years old by December 31, 2021, and have assessed developmental delays and qualify for early intervention through Program Unit Funding as outlined by Alberta Education. We reserve up to five spaces in each class for play partners. Play partners are children that reflect typical development and are three or four years old. The cost for a play partner is $225/month, and a pre-authorized debit agreement is required upon confirmation of placement (not at the time of application). School based student fees may be required, depending on student age and level of need. Families who registered prior to March 31 will be notified by April 2021 via email regarding the status of their application. Applications received after March 31 will be placed on a waiting list and will be notified when a space becomes available. Please note this is an educational program therefore it is not eligible for a subsidy or a childcare deduction on your income tax.

All schools are working on plans to provide virtual opportunities for families to learn about programming and see inside the school.

KINDERGARTEN

We are now accepting applications for Kindergarten. See the link to the attendance map below to determine your in-area school.

Children must be five years old by December 31, 2021, to register for 2021-2022 Kindergarten programming. Kindergarten is a part time program and will be offered in either the morning or afternoon.

PLAY & LEARN PROGRAM

We are now accepting applications for Play & Learn. Families can indicate that they would like to choose the Play & Learn Program during the online registration process for Kindergarten. See the link to the attendance map below to determine your in-area school.

We believe in the importance of building a solid foundation in the early years. To enhance our half day kindergarten program, we will offer an optional, part time, Play & Learn program for kindergarten aged children. This will allow all children the option to receive a full day of programming to engage in holistic play based activities through exploration and problem solving to develop literacy skills and physical well being in an inclusive environment.

CURRENT STUDENT RE-ENROLLMENT

All students that will attend an MHPSD school for the 2021-2022 school year will be required to re-enroll. Online re-enrollment will start on Feb 1, 2021.

Please note: We will continue the quarter system in our high schools. Google Classroom will remain central to our system approach to providing access to learning from home.

NEW STUDENTS REGISTRATION

  • Current MHPSD Students: All students currently registered at MHPSD schools will be registered for in-person learning unless families choose The Hub option during the 2021-2022 re-enrollment process. Families are required to re-enroll at their in-area school and choose The Hub option during the online re-enrollment process.
  • New Students to MHPSD that wish to attend The Hub: New families need to register their child at their in-area school and there will be an option to choose The Hub during the online registration process. Families can create a NEW ACCOUNT and register starting Feb 1, 2021.

TRANSPORTATION

Medicine Hat Public School Division transports over 2,500 students including students with special needs. Rider registration is required. There will be an option to apply for school bus transportation during the new student or current student online registration process starting Feb 1, 2021. Only registered riders will be permitted to ride the school bus. At this time, there is no cost associated with accessing school bus transportation.

Families are asked to view our attendance area maps and bus route maps to learn about pick up and drop locations and times. If your child requires special transportation (ex: wheel chair accessibility) please contact Robert Olson, Transportation Coordinator 403.528.6572.

RIDER ELIGIBILITY

The Board may provide transportation service for resident students in the following categories:

  1. Students within the school division boundaries who reside over 2.4km from their designated school.
  2. Grades K-3 students residing beyond 1.2km from their designated school.

Some students who have been permitted to ride in the past, but who do not qualify under provincial regulations or MHPSD policy, may not be permitted to continue to ride in the 2021-2022 school year. These measures will allow us to provide appropriate contact tracing if someone testpositive for COVID-19 and has used school bus transportation.

School bus transportation is provided by our partners at Southland Transportation. If your child's bus is late or if you have questions about scheduling or routes please contact Southland Transportation at 403.526.4655.
