Children with complex communication needs may use a variety of tools, technology, or ways to communicate including pictures, gestures and speech. Often their communication partners benefit from using alternative and augmentative communication (AAC) methods temporarily or permanently.
Kathy Howery is a doctoral candidate at the University of Alberta and has worked for more than 30 years in the field of special education and assistive technology. Kathy will explore opportunities for communication, myths around complex communication needs, and provide an overview of augmentative and alternative communication and the power of such supports for expanding both communication and participation in the classroom and in the community.
It will be an evening of fun, learning and sharing. We hope to see you there!
