Congratulations Laura & Donna

Medicine Hat School District No. 76 is extremely proud to recognize the achievements of two of its own -- Laura Gale (Kindergarten teacher at River Heights School) and Donna Armstrong (Multi-media/Design/Communications teacher at CHHS). Laura and Donna were both honoured with the "Prime Minister's Awards for Teaching Excellence" and join an elite group of teachers recognized nationally.

Glen Motz, MP for Medicine Hat-Cardston-Warner recently acknowledged the achievements of both women as can be viewed here.

The Prime Minister's Awards for Teaching Excellence honours exceptional elementary and secondary school teachers in all disciplines. Recipients are honoured for their remarkable achievements in education and for their commitment to preparing their students for a digital and innovation-based economy. The selection committee award the honour of Prime Minister’s Award for Teaching Excellence Certificate of Achievement to a maximum of 25 teachers across Canada each year with spots reserved for representatives from each region and for Aboriginal teachers.

Recipients must be nominated by any person or group with direct knowledge of the nominee's contribution, for example a parent, school principal, supervisor, fellow teacher, etc. (ie. not self-nominated, nor nominated by family members).

Award recipients are selected based on the excellence and innovation of their teaching practices. In selecting award recipients, the committee looks for clear evidence that nominees have excelled in all of the following five areas:
1. Innovative and Exemplary Teaching Practices
2. Digital Literacy and Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) in the Classroom
3. Student Skills Development
4. Student Achievement and Participation
5. Teacher Commitment and Leadership
