Unveiling of the James Marshall mural dedicated to Dr. Larry Henderson, was the highlight of the 40th Anniversary Open House held recently at Southview Community School. About 100 guests and dignitaries were on hand for the tribute to Dr. Henderson who was the first administrator at the school 40 years ago. Mayor Ted Clugston performed the ribbon cutting and spoke at the occasion, as did SD76 Board Chair, Rick Massini. Mr. Scott Henderson, Dr. Henderson’s son, spoke in honour of his father and Dr. Ken Sauer, a personal and professional colleague of Dr. Henderson for many years, also addressed the gathering. Vera Henderson (widow of Dr. Henderson), along with family members were in attendance.
To help with the Open House, student greeters escorted guests to the gym and helped serve cake. The student choir opened with a stirring rendition of “O Canada”. Scrapbooks from the years that Dr. Henderson was an administrator were on display along with many other artifacts.
